In order to support the meritorious and economically backward students of West Bengal, the Government of west Bengal initiated many schemes for providing scholarships at various levels of higher studies, at educational institutions in West Bengal. Due to such initiatives, the students will be able to pursue their higher studies. The name of such an important scholarship is Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship (SVMCMS). This scheme was revamped in the year 2016. The scheme intends to cover more number of students.

Objectives of the Scheme:

Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship (SVMCMS) intends to provide financial support to the students for higher education. The authority will give these scholarships for an year based on satisfactory academic result.




Post – Madhyamik regular students who are domiciled in West Bengal and studying in any one of educational institutions of this state after passing out from the State Board/Council of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and Madrasa Siksha Parishad/ a University of West Bengal, set up by  State Act, whose maximum family income must not exceed Rs.2,50,000/- per annum, may apply for West Bengal Merit cum Means Scholarships.

Scope for Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship (SVMCMS):

The regular students of Class XI and XII and under Graduate students of Science/Arts/commerce, Engineering. Medical and Technical or Professional courses will be benefited by this scheme. Post Graduate students of Science or Arts or Commerce and amp; Technical/Management will also be benefited. The scholarships will be allowed only to the deserving students on merit-cum-means criteria.

Students who are pursuing M. Phil and Doctoral courses (NON-NET JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW and NET – LECTURESHIP) from State-aided institutions will come under this scholarship.

Kanyashree recipients (K-2) who are pursuing Post Graduate courses in Science, Arts and Commerce in universities of this state after obtaining Under Graduate Degree with 45% marks in aggregate from institutions of this state will come under this scholarship scheme.

You will get Payment by direct beneficiary transfer only. So, furnishing of bank details of the applicant i.e. A/C no, name of the bank,  IFSC code is must.




Various types of Scholarship Schemes & Eligibility Criteria :
Higher Secondary Level:

The amount of Scholarship is Rs. 1000/- p.m.

The applicant must obtain at least 75% marks in aggregate in Madhyamik or its equivalent as stated above excluding optional elective subjects. Students enrolled in class XI after passing Madhyamik Examination are also eligible to apply. Candidates from outside the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education will not be eligible to apply for this scholarship.

For Under Graduate Level Scholarship.

The amount of Scholarship is Rs. 1000/- to 5000/- p.m.

Eligibility : The students must obtain at least 75% marks consisting of two language subjects and three the best elective subjects. Students enrolled in 1st year of the Under Graduate Course after passing HS Examination or its equivalent in the current academic year are also eligible to apply.

For scholarship at Diploma(Polytechnic) level:

Students who are enrolled after passing out Secondary Examination or its equivalent as stated above in 2016 for first year Diploma (Polytechnic) course  (HS Examination or its equivalent for Diploma in Pharmacy or Modern Office Practice and Management of two years duration) and after passing out in “West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training” courses which is equivalent to HS Examination for 2-year Diploma (Polytechnic) courses on literal entry basis, will be eligible to apply. Candidates must obtain at least 75% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination for applying for the scholarship (excluding the marks secured in the optional elective subject, if any).

For Post Graduate Level Scholarship:

To apply for this scholarship at the post-graduate level, the students must have passed UG Hons course with at least 55% marks from any recognized university. The amount for this category – Rs.1200 to Rs.1500 per month.

Kanyashree recipients (K-2) (married/unmarried) pursuing Post Graduate courses in Science, Commerce, and Arts stream from universities of this state after obtaining Under Graduate Degree with 45% marks in aggregate from institutions of this state will come under the aegis of this scholarship scheme. So, there is no need to submit an Income Certificate and Income Affidavit in respect of Kanyashree students applying for K3 scholarship under Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship Scheme.

There is no particular criteria for Students who have taken admission to MBBS, BDS, B.Sc. Nursing, BHMS, BAMS courses in 1st year.

Annual Income for Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship :

Students’ Annual Income must not exceed Rs.2,50,000/- to apply for this scholarship.




Application and Sanction Process:

Eligible Candidates for different categories will have to submit their applications online in the scholarship portal and applications i.r.o. scholarship cases would be arranged in descending order (on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination apart from income/means criteria), and scholarship will be sanctioned as per the availability of fund and strictly on the basis of merit list. So, Fund may be transferred to beneficiary’s account if the documents are all correct.

Online Fresh Application Process: –

Follow the steps to apply online-

Step 1- 

Open The home page of Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship Click Here and then click on Registrationlink just beside “Applicant Loginsection.

Step – 2

Then Tick the declaration “This is to declare that I have read the instructions properly and I agree to abide by them“. Now click on Proceed for Registration” button. Then Fill up the Registration Form providing valid information.


Online Registration 

On successful submission of  Registration Form, Applicant will get an applicant ID and use it to complete the remaining Steps of the Application Form. Application ID is also required for all future correspondence. While selecting the Password please maintain the Password Policy as instructed in the form. Please note down the system generated Applicant  ID. You have to give valid Mobile Number and Email ID because OTP (One Time Password) will be sent to verify Mobile Number and also SMS will be sent to Email ID when registration and submission of Application are completed.

Applicants who are willing to apply for K3 must to fill up the authentication form to verify the existence in Kanyashree 2 with the input fields Kanyashree k2 year, Kanyashree ID, Applicant’s Name, Applicant’s Date of Birth, Father’s Name , Mother’s Name. When K2 authentication is successfully done, applicants will be forwarded to registration form. And the rest of the process is same as fresh application process.

For renewal of existing beneficiaries, no registration is required. They can login with their previous Applicant ID and Password to apply for renewal.

How to Retrieve Your ID & Password, if Forgotten?

If you forget your Application ID and Password, you can retrieve them from Forget Application ID & Password option.

Step- 3:

Log in with the System generated Applicant ID and password. After successful login, fill up the rest of the Application form (i.e. personal details, basic details. While uploading the scanned copy of image and signature, maintain the file format and file size as mentioned. Image and signature format should be JPG/JPEG and size should be between 20kb -50kb and 10kb-20kb respectively.

Step – 4:


Upload the following documents carefully. So, maintain the file format and file size as mentioned in the form. File should be in PDF format and size should not exceed 400kb.

Then upload thse Documents for fresh and Kanyashree candidates:


Admit of Madhyamik Examination or its equivalent.

Mark Sheet of Madhyamik Examination or its equivalent (both  sides).

Admit card of last board/Council/University/College examination.





Mark Sheet of last board/Council/University/College examination (both sides).


Income Certificate of family (not applicable for Kanyashree).


Income Certificate Affidavit (not applicable for Kanyashree).


Domicile Certificate as Aadhaar Id /voter ID/ Ration Card/Certificate issued by concerned authority.

Scanned copy of bank Passbook (1st page containing A/C no).

Upload the following Documents for Renewal Application:

Copy of the Mark Sheet of last examination in the present course of study (both sides and in case of semester system, year wise semester Mark sheet.

Admission receipt for the promotion to the next higher class.

First page of the bank Passbook and the leaf of the book in which the credited scholarship amount of last year has been shown.

Step-5

After successful upload, finalize the Application. After finalising the Application, download the Verification  Certificate which contains two pages. First page is the Applicant’s Copy and second page is HOI (head of institution) Copy.

After verification and signed by HOI, the applicant will scan his copy and then upload this in the Application Portal to complete the Application Process. HOI will retain his copy.

How to Edit Application Form?:

Whenever you finally submit the Application Form, you cannot edit this form if there in any mistake. If you have to edit the Application Form you have to request your Head of the Institution to unlock the Application. Only you can make any change in your Application Form.

Renewal of  Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship (SVMCMS):

For renewal of Scholarship, applicant must submit online application to the concerned scholarship sanctioning authority within one month from the date of his/her admission in the next higher class due to promotion by passing in the first attempt. (In case of Semester mode- clear all semester examinations  in the first attempt.) Renewal cases (concentrated only at a particular level of study) then will be sanctioned subject to good academic performance(minimum 60% marks should be obtained from Higher Secondary Level to Undergraduate Level at the promotional examination) and 50% marks at Post Graduate Level.

Renewal Of MBBS Students:

Renewal 1: MBBS students have to submit the First MBBS Marksheet.

Renewal 2: The MBBS Students of 5th Semester who want to apply for Second Renewal for this scholarship, must submit certificate from the Principal declaring that the applicant scored 60% marks in all subjects in 4th Semester Exam.

Renewal 3: For the 3rd or Final Renewal in the following year, the MBBS applicant must furnish the 2nd Prof MBBS Marksheet.

Submission of Online Application will start from September 2021.

Submission of Fresh Application will continue till November 2021.
