John Edward Masefield (1878-1967) was (ছিলেন) an (একজন) English (ইংরেজ) poet (কবি), writer (লেখক), and (এবং) Poet Laureate (সভাকবি) of the United Kingdom from (থেকে) 1930 till (পর্যন্ত) his (তার) death (মৃত্যু). He (সে) is (হয়) also (আরও) remembered (স্মরণীয় বা পরিচিত) as (হিসেবে) the author (লেখক) of the childrens’ (শিশুদের) novels (উপন্যাস) “The Midnight Folk” and “The Box of Delights”.

The poem (কবিতাটি) speaks of (বলছে) the excitement (উত্তেজনার কথা) (যেটা) the poet (কবি) feels (অনুভব করেন) at the anticipation (প্রত্যাশায়) of a sea-voyage (সমুদ্র-যাত্রার). I must go down to the seas again,
To the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship
And a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song
And the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again,
For the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call
That may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day
With the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume,
And the seagulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again
To the vagrant gypsy life
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind is
Like a whetted knife,
And all I ask is a merry yarn
From a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream
When the long trip is over.

And (এবং) all I ask (আমার যা কিছু চাই) is (তা হলো)a tall (লম্বা) ship (জাহাজ)

And (এবং) a star (তারা)  to steer her by (তাকে অর্থাৎ জাহাজটিকে চালনা করার জন্য);

আমার যা কিছু চাই তা হলো একটি লম্বা জাহাজ এবং সেই জাহাজটিকে চালনা করার জন্য একটি তারা

And the wheel’s (চাকার) kick (লাথি, কিন্তু এখানে ধাক্কা অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে) and the wind’s (বাতাসের) song (গান অর্থাৎ শব্দ)

And the white (সাদা) sail’s (পালের)  shaking (কম্পন)

এবং আর চাই চাকার ধাক্কা বাতাসের গান আর সাদা পালের কম্পন।

And a grey (ধূসর) mist (কুয়াশা) on the sea’s (সমুদ্রের) face (মুখে) and a grey (ধূসর) dawn breaking (ভোরের আলো ফোটা)

সমুদ্রের মুখে অর্থাৎ সমুদ্রের উপর থাকবে ধূসর কুয়াশা, আর জেগে উঠবে ভোরের ধুসর আলো।

I must go down to the seas again, (এই লাইনের বাংলা মানে উপরে একবার দেওয়া আছে।)

আমি আবার সমুদ্রে পাড়ি দেবই,

For (এখানে কারণ অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে) the call (ডাক) of the running (ছুটন্ত) tide (ঢেউ)

Is (হয়) a wild (বন্য) call (ডাক) and a clear (স্পষ্ট) call (ডাক)

কারণ, ছুটন্ত ঢেউয়ের ডাক হলো একটি বন্য এবং স্পষ্ট ডাক।

That (যেটাকে অর্থাৎ যেই ডাক টিকে) may not be denied (অস্বীকার করা যাবে না);

যেই ডাককে অস্বীকার করা যাবে না।

And all I ask (আমার যা কিছু চাই) is (তা হলো) a windy (ঝোড়ো) day (দিন)

With (সঙ্গে) the white (সাদা) clouds  flying (ভাসমান মেঘ),

আমার যা কিছু চাই তাহলে একটি ঝোড়ো দিন এবং সঙ্গে থাকবে ভাসমান সাদা মেঘ।

And (এবং) the flung (ছিটকে পড়া) spray (উড়ন্ত জলকণা) and the blown (বাতাসে উড়তে পারে এমন) spume (বুদবুদ),

And the seagulls (শঙ্খচিলগুলি) crying (ডাকছে এমন).

আর চাই ছিটকে পড়া জলকণা, ফুলে ফেঁপে ওঠা ফেনা ও শঙ্খচিলের ডাক।

I must go down to the seas again,

আমি আবার সমুদ্রে পাড়ি দেবই,

To the vagrant (ভবঘুরে) gypsy (যাযাবর) life (জীবন)

To the gull’s (শঙ্খচিলের) way (পথে) and the whale’s (তিমির) way (পথে) where (যেখানে) the wind (বাতাস) is (হয়)

Like (মতো) a whetted (শান দেওয়া বা শানিত) knife (ছুরি),

ভবঘুরে যাযাবর জীবনে, শঙ্খচিলের পথে এবং তিমির পথে, যেখানে বাতাস হয় শানিত ছুরির মতো।

And all I ask (আমার যা কিছু চাই) is (তা হলো a merry (মজাদার) yarn (গল্প)

From (থেকে) a laughing (হাসছে এমন) fellow-rover (সহ-নাবিক),

And quiet (শান্ত) sleep (ঘুম) and a sweet (মিষ্টি-মধুর) dream (স্বপ্ন)

When (যখন) the long (দীর্ঘ) trip (যাত্রা, এখানে সমুদ্র-যাত্রার কথা বলা হয়েছে) is over (শেষ হয়).
