বিভিন্ন ধরনের বাক্যের মাধ্যমে আমরা আমাদের মনের সমস্ত ভাব প্রকাশ করি। মূলত পাঁচ প্রকার বাক্যের মাধ্যমে আমাদের মনের সমস্ত ভাব আমরা প্রকাশ করে থাকি। তাই অর্থের দিক থেকে ইংরেজিতে বাক্য পাঁচ প্রকারের।
ইংরেজি ব্যাকরণে Sentence বা বাক্য হল পাঁচ প্রকারের (in English grammar there are five types of sentences):
1. Assertive Sentence (বা বিবৃতিমূলক বাক্য) – Click Here
2. Interrogative Sentence (বা প্রশ্নসূচক বাক্য)
3. Imperative Sentence (বা আদেশ মূলক বা উপদেশ মূলক বা অনুরোধ মূলক বাক্য)
4. Optative Sentence (বা ইচ্ছা বা প্রার্থনা মূলক বাক্য)
5. Exclamatory Sentence (বা আবেগসূচক বা অনুভূতি সূচক বাক্য)

Assertive Sentence – কে আমরা বলতে পারি Statement ।
Interrogative Sentence -কে আমরা বলতে পারি Question ।
Imperative Sentence -কে আমরা বলতে পারি Command or Request ।
Optative Sentence -কে আমরা বলতে পারি Desire or Prayer ।
Exclamatory Sentence -কে আমরা বলতে পারি Emotion ।
কয়েকটি অতি সাধারণ জিনিস আমাদের জেনে রাখা প্রয়োজন। প্রতিটি ইংরেজি বাক্য শুরু হয় বড় হাতের অক্ষর দিয়ে। Assertive sentence, Imperative sentence এবং Optative sentence এর শেষে পূর্ণচ্ছেদ বা ফুলস্টপ বসে। Interrogative sentence – এর শেষে জিজ্ঞাসা চিহ্ন (?) বসে এবং Exclamatory sentence – এর শেষে আবেগ সূচক চিহ্ন (!) বসে।
উপরোক্ত এই পাঁচ ধরনের বাক্য কে আবার দুটি করে ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়:
i) Affirmative Sentence (বা হ্যাঁ বাচক বাক্য)
ii) Negative Sentence (বা না বাচক বাক্য)
** তবে এই পাঁচ ধরনের বাক্য ছাড়াও আর এক ধরনের বাক্যের মাধ্যমে আমরা আমাদের মনের ভাব প্রকাশ করতে পারি, সেটি হল Emphatic Sentence.***
