SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIJAN-EDUCATION FOR ALL
This project was introduced in September, 2001 to ensure
education for all. This is a Central Government project. It was implemented in collaboration with the State Governments. The programme intended to provide eight years of quality education to all the Indian children in the age group of 6-14 years. The target year of this project was 2016 by which the programme was to be completed. The programme had already covered all
the districts of the country by 2001.
To achieve the target within the given
or fixed time 6078 Primary and 4620 Upper Primary schools were to be set
up to provide elementary education to the children of the country. The Central Goverment disbursed money which reached the schools through the
State Government and the local panchayet. Training was given to a large
number of teachers across the country. District level committees were formed to supervise the progress of education. The actual progress of the country largely depends on the success of the Sarva Shiksha Abhijan.
