NMMSE (National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Examination) – 2019 for the students studying in class VIII.

NMMSE (National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship) NMMS scheme is a Centrally Sponsored Scholarship Sheme. This scheme was initiated in May 2008. This scholarship scheme gives scholarships to the meritorious students of economically weaker sections to prevent dropout at class VIII level.

So, the scheme encourages them to continue their study at secondary level. Scholarship of Rupees 6000/- per annum/year ( rupees 500 per month) per student is given to the selected students every year for study in classes from IX to XII in the State Government, Government aided, and local body schools. There is a quota of scholarships for different states or UTs. Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than Rs. 1,50,000 are eligible to avail this scholarship. There is also reservation as per state government norms. The selection of students for the scholarship is made through an examination conducted by the state governments. The State Bank of India directly disburses the scholarship amount into the bank accounts of the students on quarterly basis.

This examination intends to find out the meritorious students from the economically backward section. This examination is for class VIII level students. The scholarship helps them continue their studies after class VIII. The Ministry of Human and Resource Development Department, Government of India, provides this scholarship.

Eligiibility criteria for NMMSE (National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship

Students of class VIII, who secured 55% and above marks in the final examination of class VII, are eligible to appear in the NMMS Examination 2019 for class VIII. (5% relaxation to SC, ST and Disabled candidates).

Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawaharlal Navodaya Vidyalaya and State Government run residential schools or any private school are not entitled to get this scholarship. So, The students must be studying in recognised Government schools or Government aided school or local body and Government sponsored schools including Madrasah without residential facility.

Annual parental income/family income must not exceed Rupees. 1,50,000/- per annum from all sources. Applicants have to upload Income Certificate.

For salaried persons employed in Government, semi – Government and government aided organisation or institution, you have to upload Employer Certificate for the period from 01.04.2018 to 31.03.2019.

For other persons, you have to upload Income Certificate for the period from 01.04.2018 to 31.03.2019 obtained from any competent authority not below the rank of Jt. BDO or Executive Officer (in case of corporation and municipality area).

So, every applicant must have a Bank Account in his or her name. The Bank Account may be single or a joint account (in case of joint bank account, he or she must be the first holder of the account). If you submit the bank detail, it is final and you cannot change the bank A/C number.

The applicants having Aadhar Card, must link the bank account with your Aadhar Card positively and then mention the same in the space given in the application.

There are two Educational Districts in addition to 23 Administrative Districts in West Bengal. They are Barrackpore Education District ( sub-division Barrackpore and Bidhannagar) and Siliguri Education District ( sub-division- Siliguri).

If an applicant is studying in any school under Barrackpore or Bidhannagar subdivision, he or she must choose Barrackpore district instead of North 24 Parganas or Kolkata.

If the candidate is studying in any school under Siliguri subdivision, he or she must choose Siliguri as district instead of Darjeeling.

Applicants should opt for the district in which his or her school is located.

Online Application Procedure:

Step 1:

  • Go to the official website https://scholarships.wbsed.gov.in
  • Then click on the ‘new user register here’ link.
  • Then fill up the personal details along with one mobile number. (Applicant cannot use one mobile number second time for registration).
  • Now register. Applicant will get a registration number. Then Note it down carefully along with the password given for future login to the system.

Step 2:

  • Then login to your account using registration number and password given.
  • Then edit the form and fill in other details.
  • Now upload the scanned copy of your passport photograph. The image file for the photographs must be in JPEG or JPG format. The maximum size limit is 20 KB.
  • Then save the form. You can edit the form till you lock it.
  • When the form is complete and correct with all particulars, then click on the lock button.
  • Then take a printout of the filled-in Application along with the format for Certificate from the Head of the School or institution (HOI).

Step 3:

  • Applicant has to take out the printed Application form and Certificate Format along with copies of other necessary documents as mentioned below and then take it to the Head of the School or Institution ( HOI) and get the HOI Certificate signed with official seal.
  • Then upload the signed certificate along with the scanned copy of:

Income Certificate of parent.

First page of Bank Passbook.

Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority, if applicable.

Disability Certificate (40% and above disability must be certified by the Competent Medical Board of the State government or Central government), if applicable.

  • Then the documents must be duly authenticated by the concerned school authority. The maximum size of scanned documents should be 100kb.
  • Then press the ‘Finalize Application’ button. Without finalization online form fill up of a candidate will not get Admit Card.

SC or ST and physically disabled candidates must submit Caste Certificate and Disability Certificate respectively.

  • Then upload the certificate from HOI and other required documents.
  • Check email or SMS regarding acceptance or rejection of his or her application after online form fill-up from time to time.

The rejected applicant will get an opportunity to rectify the application by 08. 09. 2019.

The candidate or the applicant may be cancelled at any stage of the examination process without any reference if any incorrect information is found in the filled-in application form of the said candidate. So, Application form with incomplete or irrelevant information or photograph or scanned certificates is liable to be rejected.

Applicants will get Notification for downloading online admit card on notice section. So, Keep checking the scholarship portal for the same and any for the information relating to the examination.

Exam Pattern of NMMS:

There are two types of Tests.

1. Mental Ability Test:

This Test will be of 90 marks (MCQ), Each question carrying 1 mark only. You will get 90 minutes.

2. Scholastic Aptitude Test:

This Test will be of 90 marks (MCQ), Each question carrying 1 mark only. You will get 90 minutes.

Syllabus: subject: There is no prescribed syllabus for NMMS examination. Standard of items shall conform to the level of class seven and eight.

Scholastic Aptitude Test comprises of the following subjects given below:
1. Mathematics 2. Physical Science 3. Life Science 4. History and 5. Geography.

All questions in the booklet for NMMS examination are objective type. Each question carries one mark. There is no negative marking in the said examination. The decision of the authority will be final in case of any dispute or doubt.
