“Sidda, come and play!” Leela would cry, and Sidda had to drop any work he might be doing and run to her, as she stood in the front garden with a red ball in her hand. His company made her supremely happy. She flung the ball at him and he flung it back. And then she said, “Now throw the ball into the sky.” Sidda clutched the ball, closed his eyes for a second, and threw the ball up. When the ball came down again, she said, “Now this has touched the moon and come. You see here a little bit of the moon sticking.” Leela keenly examined the ball for traces of the moon and said, “I don’t see it.”
“You must be very quick about it,” said Sidda, “because it will all evaporate and go back to the moon. Now hurry up…….”. He covered the ball tightly with his fingers and allowed her to peep through a little gap.
Bengali meaning of each word (প্রতিটি শব্দের বাংলা মানে):
“Sidda, come and play!” (সিদ্দা, এসো এবং খেলা করো, এখানে লীলা সিদ্দাকে ডাকছে তার সাথে খেলার জন্য) Leela would cry (লীলা চিৎকার করে বলতো), and Sidda had to drop (এবং সিদ্দাকে ফেলে রেখে আসতে হতো, এখানে সিদ্দা আসতে বাধ্য হতো) any work (যে কোনো কাজ) he might be doing (যে টা সে করছিল) and ran to her (সিদ্দা ছুটে লীলার কাছে যেত) as (যখন) she (সে অর্থাৎ লীলা) stood (দাঁড়িয়ে ছিল) in the front garden (সামনের দিকে বাগানে) with a red ball in her hand (হাতে লাল বল নিয়ে). His (তার অর্থাৎ সিদ্দার) comnpany (সঙ্গ) made her supremely (ভীষণ ভাবে) happy (লীলাকে ভীষণ খুশি করত, এখানে বোঝা যায় লীলা সিদ্দার সঙ্গে থাকতে পছন্দ করত।) She flung (ছুঁড়ে দিল) the ball at him (সিদ্দার দিকে) and he flung it back (এবং সিিদ্দাও বলটা তাকে ছুঁড়ে ফিরিয়ে দিত।). And then (তারপর) she (লীলা) said (বলল),
“Now throw (ছুঁড়ে দাও) the ball (বলটি) into the sky (আকাশে).” Sidda clutched (ধরল) the ball, closed (বন্ধ করল) his eyes (তার চোখ) for a second (এক সেকেন্ডের জন্য) and threw (ছুঁড়ে দিল) the ball up (উপরে). When the ball came down (যখন বলটি উপর থেকে নীচে নেমে এল), again (আবার), he (সিদ্দা) said (বলল), “Now (এখন) this (এটি অর্থাৎ বলটি) has touched (স্পর্শ করে এসেছে) the moon (চাঁদকে) and come (নেমে এসেছে). You (তুমি) see (দেখো) here (এখানে) a little (সামান্য) bit (টুকরো বা অংশ) of the moon (চাঁদের) sticking (লেগে আছে).” *** (এখানে আমাদের লক্ষ্য রাখতে হবে যে সিদ্দা কত সুন্দর ভাবে গল্প বানিয়ে দিলাম সামনে উপস্থাপন করছে) Leela keenly (তীক্ষ্ম দৃষ্টি দিয়ে) examined (পরীক্ষা করল বা দেখল) the ball (বলটিকে) for traces (দাগ বা চিহ্ন দেখার জন্য) of the moon (চাঁদের) and said (এবং বলল), “I don’t see (আমি দেখতে পাচ্ছি না) it (চাঁদের দাগ).” “You must be very quick about it” (তোমাকে খুব তাড়াতাড়ি দেখতে হবে) said Sidda, (সিদ্দা বলল) “because (কারণ) it (এটা অর্থাৎ চাঁদের দাগটা) will all evaporate (বাষ্প হয়ে যাবে) and go back (ফিরে চলে যাবে) to the moon (চাঁদের কাছে). Now gurry up…” (এখন তাড়াতাড়ি করো) He (সে অর্থাৎ সিদ্দা) covered (চেপে বা ঢেকে দিল) the ball (বলটি) tightly (শক্তকরে) with his fingers (আঙুল দিয়ে) and allowed (অনুমতি দিল বা বলল) her (লীলাকে) to peep (উঁঁকি মারতে) through (মধ্য দিয়ে) a little gap (আঙুলের মাঝের ফাঁক দিয়ে).
অনুচ্ছেদটির বাংলা মানে:
“সিদ্দা, এসো এবং খেলো।” লিলা চিৎকার করতো, সিদ্ধাকে ফেলে রেখে যেতে হতো যেকোনো কাজ যা সে করত এবং তার (অর্থাৎ লীলার) কাছে ছুটে যেতে হতো, যখন সে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকতো সামনের বাগানে তার হাতে একটা লাল বল নিয়ে। তার (অর্থাৎ সিদ্দার) সঙ্গ তাকে (অর্থাৎ লীলাকে) ভীষণভাবে খুশি করত। সে (অর্থাৎ লীলা) তার (অর্থাৎ সিদ্দার) দিকে বলটা ছুঁড়ে দিত এবং সে (অর্থাৎ সিদ্ধা) বলটা পাল্টা ছুঁড়ে দিত। এবং তারপর সে (অর্থাৎ লীলা) বলতো, “এখন বলটা আকাশে ছুঁড়ে দাও।” সিদ্দা বলটাকে ধরল, এক সেকেন্ডের জন্য তার চোখ বন্ধ করলো এবং বলটা উপরে ছুড়ে দিল। যখন বলটা আবার নিচে নেমে এলো, সে (অর্থাৎ সিদ্দা) বলল, “এখন এটা (অর্থাৎ বলটা) চাঁদকে স্পর্শ করেছে এবং নেমে এসেছে। তুমি এখানে দেখো চাঁদের সামান্য অংশ লেগে আছে।” লীলা আগ্রহের সঙ্গে পরিক্ষা করে দেখল চাঁদের দাগ দেখার জন্য এবং বলল, “আমি এটা দেখতে পাচ্ছি না।” “তোমাকে এই ব্যাপারে খুব তাড়াতাড়ি দেখতে হবে,” সিদ্দা বলল, “কারণ এটা বাষ্পে পরিণত হবে এবং চাঁদের কাছে ফিরে চলে যাবে। এখন তাড়াতাড়ি করো….” সে শক্ত করে বলটাকে ঢেকে দিল তার আঙ্গুল দিয়ে এবং একটা ছোট্ট ফাঁক দিয়ে তাকে উঁকি দিতে দিল।
** উপরের এই অনুচ্ছেদটির মধ্যে লেখক বর্ণনা করেছেন লীলার সঙ্গে সিদ্দার কি মধুর একটা সম্পর্ক। কিভাবে তারা খেলাধুলা করে, লীলা সিদ্ধার দিকে বল ছুঁড়ে দেয় আবার সিদ্ধা লীলা দিকে বলে দেয়। এবং সেই বলটি নিচে নেমে আসার পর সিদ্ধা কাল্পনিক গল্প বানিয়ে নীলাকে বলে যে বলটি চাঁদকে স্পর্শ করে এসেছে এবং বলের গায়ে চাঁদ এর দাগ লেগে আছে। আবার নীলাকে বলে চাঁদের দাগটা বলের উপর খুঁজে দেখতে। লীলা যখন বলল যে সে দেখতে পাচ্ছে না, তখন সিদ্ধা তার আঙ্গুলের ফাঁকে দেখতে বলে। এইভাবে একটা অপূর্ব সুন্দর সম্পর্ক গড়ে ওঠে লীলা এবং সিদ্দার মধ্যে।
