আমরা জানি যে প্রত্যেকটি বাক্য এক বা একের বেশি শব্দ দিয়ে তৈরি হয়। সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ পূর্ণ প্রত্যেকটি বাক্যের অন্তর্গত ওয়ার্ড বা শব্দ গুলির একটি করে বিশেষ ব্যাকরণগত বৈশিষ্ট্য বা নাম থাকে। তাই একটি বাক্যের মধ্যে থাকা প্রত্যেকটি শব্দের আলাদা আলাদা নাম রয়েছে। পার্টস অফ স্পিচ এর মাধ্যমে আমরা সেই প্রত্যেকটি শব্দের নাম জানতে পারি।
অর্থাৎ বলা যায় একটি সম্পূর্ণ বাক্যের মধ্যে থাকা প্রতিটি শব্দের ব্যাকরণগত নাম আমরা পার্টস অফ স্পিচ এর মাধ্যমে জানতে পারি।
এখানে Speech শব্দের অর্থ হলো Sentence বা বাক্য।
আর Part শব্দটির অর্থ হলো ‘অংশ’।
তাহলে, ‘Parts of Speech’ মানে বাক্যের অংশ বা বাক্যাংশ।
অর্থাৎ একটি বাক্য গঠন করতে যে সব word বা শব্দ ব্যবহৃত হয়, সেই সব word বা শব্দই হলো বাক্যের এক-একটি part বা অংশ।
প্রতিটি অংশেরই এক-একটি নাম থাকে। Parts of Speech- এর মাধ্যমে আমরা সেই অংশগুলির নাম জানতে পারি।

A preposition is a word that is used before a noun or a pronoun to show in what relation the person or thing denoted stands to something else.
7) Conjunction (সংযোজক অব্যয়)
A conjunction is a word that is used to join words or groups of words or sentences.
8) Interjection (বিস্ময় সূচক অবয়)
An interjection is a word that is used to express some sudden and strong feeling.
