‘Be’ verb – was, were – এর ব্যবহার:
Was, were – এদের অর্থ হলো ‘ছিল’। অতীতে বা আগে কোনো কিছু ‘ছিল’ বা ‘কোথাও ছিল’ বোঝাতে was বা were ব্যবহার করা হয়। I, he, she , it, Rahim, Ram – এইরকম Subject বা কর্তা থাকলে ‘was’ ব্যবহার করা হয়। We, they, you – এইরকম Subject বা কর্তা থাকলে ‘were’ ব্যবহার করা হয়।
First person singular number (I), third person singular number -(he, she, it, Ram) – এর ক্ষেত্রে ‘was’ বসে।
First person plural number (we), second person singular and plural number (you), third person plural number (they) – এগুলি Subject (বা কর্তা) হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হলে were বসে।
Examples:
Rahul was a businessman. – রাহুল ছিল একজন ব্যবসায়ী।
The toy was on the table – খেলনাটি ছিল টেবিলের উপর।
Raju was a good student – রাজু ছিল একজন ভালো ছাত্র।
I was a good student -আমি ছিলাম একজন ভালো ছাত্র।
He was an intelligent boy – সে ছিল একজন বুদ্ধিমান ছাত্র।
He was Rahim – সে ছিল রহিম।
He was honest – সে ছিল সৎ।
She was ill – সে ছিল অসুস্থ।
She was a nurse – চেয়েছিল একজন সেবিকা।
The flowers were in the vase – ফুলগুলি ছিল ফুলদানির মধ্যে।
The bird was on the branch of the tree -পাখিটি ছিল গাছের ডালে।
They were teachers – তারা ছিলেন শিক্ষক।
They were happy – তারা ছিল সুখী।
We were students – আমরা ছিলাম ছাত্র।
It was a beautiful picture – এটা ছিল একটা সুন্দর ছবি।
It was there house – এটা ছিল তাদের বাড়ি।
The book was on the table – বইটি ছিল টেবিলের উপর।
The bird was in the sky – পাখিটি ছিল আকাশে।
Moni was a player – মনি ছিল একজন খেলোয়াড়।
Mother was very beautiful – মা ছিল খুব সুন্দর।
The pond was very big – পুকুরটি ছিল ভীষণ বড়।
Madhu was my friend – মধু ছিল আমার বন্ধু।
The toys were on the table – খেলনা গুলি ছিল টেবিলের উপরে।
The books were in the shelf – বইগুলি ছিল তা কের ভিতর।
The pens were in the box -পেনগুলি ছিল বক্সের মধ্যে।
They were on the roof – তারা ছিল ছাদের উপরে।
They were teachers -তারা ছিলেন শিক্ষক।
You were in the room – আমরা ছিলাম রুমের মধ্যে।
The birds were on the tree -পাখিগুলো ছিল গাছের উপরে।
We were good girls -আমরা ছিলাম ভালো বালিকা।
